Most crime prevention practitioners would agree that an efficient way of getting the job done is to convince people to self-regulate with respect to obeying the law. That is precisely the aim of Restorative Justice. 

An ancient method that predates our court system, Restorative Justice has emerged independently in many civilizations throughout the world. The process is intuitive because it is based on our innate biological programed traits of empathy, compliance and shame that keeps most people doing the right thing most of the time, thus enabling us to live in groups.
