International Crime Prevention Specialist Curriculum

  • How do I purchase the ICPS Curriculum?  Current ISCPP Members pay $110 US (shipped anywhere in the world) for the International Crime Prevention Specialist Curriculum.  Non-Members pay $160 US (shipped anywhere in the world).  You can order a curriculum online with a credit card from the ISCPP STORE page of this website.  We use the PayPal system to process the credit card orders.  To order by check, money order or purchase order, use the ISCPP STORE page of the website to download an order form.
  • What does it mean to pass the ICPS test?  It demonstrates your grasp of the basic knowledge in the field of Crime Prevention.
  • What is the test?  It's a 200 question multiple choice test with a two hour time limit.
  • Is there a fee to take the test?  ISCPP Members pay $35 US to take the test.  Non-members pay $75 US.  If you signed up for the ICPS Training & Testing ($275 US), then the test fee is included.
  • Of the 5 electives that I have to choose prior to taking the ICPS Test, should I pick the topics I know the least?  No!  You should pick the topics that you know the best.  There is so much material for a student to know in the core material, that you want to select the electives you know.
  • What is the ICPS Curriculum Training & Testing?  Prior to the ISCPP Symposium, we offer a two and one half day ICPS Curriculum Training followed by the 2 hour test.  The cost is $275 per person and you receive the 2 and 1/2 day ICPS Curriculum Training, the ICPS Curriculum, test fee and one year membership to the ISCPP.  The ICPS Curriculum Training is also available anywhere in the world providing you can have at least 10 people.  Once this criteria has been met, the airfare, hotel and per diem costs of the trainer are paid for by the ISCPP.  For more information, please go to the ICPS CURRICULUM TRAINING below.
  • What do I have to do if I want to host an ICPS Curriculum Training in my community?  Please see the section on the ICPS CURRICULUM TRAINING below.
  • Do I have to take the ICPS Curriculum Training in order to take the ICPS test? No, we offer testing when at least 15 people in a location want to take the test and a local group is willing to pay for the cost of bringing an ISCPP proctor to that location to administer the test.
  • Who can be an ISCPP Proctor to administer the ICPS test?  Only those designated by the ISCPP Board in accordance with ISCPP policy may be a Proctor.  This is done to protect the integrity of the test and maintain the high standards of the ISCPP.
  • What do I get when I pass the ICPS test?  You receive the incredible ICPS certificate (suitable for framing), an  ICPS lapel pin, and a letter acknowledging your success sent to your Chief/Sheriff/Director or Company President.  In addition, you can use the initials ICPS after your name signifying that the ISCPP recognizes you as an International Crime Prevention Specialist.
  • What is the ICPS designation many ISCPP members have after their name (e.g. Joe Prevention, ICPS)?  It means they passed the ICPS test, demonstrating their knowledge of crime prevention.
  • Do I have to do anything to continue to use the ICPS designation?  Yes, you must remain a current member of the ISCPP.  There is no test to "re-certify" because ICPS isn't a certification.
  • I took the test (1990 to 2004) but my designation is CPS.  What happened to the CPS designation?  With the release of the revised International Crime Prevention Specialist Curriculum in 2005, the ISCPP Board of Directors decided to rename the designation from CPS to ICPS.  If you are a CPS, you can get the new ICPS designation.  Please read the question about passing the old CPS test but wanting the ICPS designation (six questions below).
  • Is there any other international crime prevention test?  We are not aware of any other international test in Crime Prevention.
  • When was the curriculum updated?  It has been updated twice.  The first time was in May, 2005.  The ISCPP's Training Committee completed a 4 year update of the ICPS Curriculum.  ISCPP Members and Crime Prevention Professionals from all over the world assisted in the writing, contributing, and editing of the 500 page ICPS Curriculum.  The second revision was in March, 2006.  Several updates to chapters were done.  There are plans to update it again in 2009.  The ICPS Curriculum is a "work in progress" because there are new issues in crime prevention.  The ICPS Curriculum will be updated and revised every few years.
  • If I passed the old ISCPP CPS Test, how do I become an ICPS?  The ISCPP Board of Directors has approved a proposal that will make any current ISCPP Member who passed the ISCPP's CPS test based on the 1990 CPS Curriculum a "CPS Alumni."  CPS Alumni will automatically be "grandfathered" in the ICPS as long as they produce their original CPS certificate at the time of their request to be grandfathered.
  • What happens if I already passed the old ISCPP CPS test and want to purchase the new Curriculum?  Those current ISCPP members who are CPS Alumni (passed the ISCPP's CPS test based on the 1990 CPS Curriculum), may purchase the new ICPS  Curriculum for a limited time for only $55 (US) which includes shipping.  That's a 50% savings!  You will be required to send a copy of your ISCPP CPS Certificate to qualify for this price.
  • What if I passed the old ISCPP CPS test and want to purchase the new Curriculum at a discount, but am no longer an ISCPP Member?  You must renew your membership for $35 (US) in order to be eligible for the 50% discount given to ISCPP CPS Alumni.  To renew your membership, go to the ISCPP STORE page of this website.
  • What if I passed the old ISCPP CPS test and want to get the new designation of ICPS and the incredible ICPS Certificate (suitable for framing)?  If you are a current ISCPP member, you can get the incredible ICPS Certificate (suitable for framing) by sending a copy of your old CPS certificate to the ISCPP Office.  Please allow 4-6 weeks to receive your incredible ISCPP ICPS Certificate (suitable for framing).
  • What does the incredible ICPS Certificate (suitable for framing) look like?

  • If I host an ICPS Curriculum Training & Testing, will I get to take the training for free?  In 2006, the ISCPP Board changed this to give the hosting agency 1 free registration for the Training & Testing for every 10 paid registrations.
